In English literacy, meaning can be comprehended and communicated effectively through reading, writing, and speaking. It is a multifaceted concept encompassing various forms of communication, from traditional print to modern digital mediums. Effective English literacy involves reading and writing, interpreting and analyzing information, communicating ideas and arguments clearly, and understanding language use nuances in different contexts. Daily communication is increasingly based on other literacies, such as visual, spatial, audio, and gestural literacy. This is similar to a complex puzzle, where each piece needs to be in place to complete the picture. When we don't see all the puzzle pieces, the whole picture is not apparent, which is also true with English literacy. The complete picture is only visible with the ability to read, write, interpret, analyze, communicate, and understand language nuances. To truly grasp the complexity of English, a comprehensive approach to English literacy is necessary for language proficiency.
