As a parent, it’s always my goal to see my child thrive in his learning journey. This past school year, I had the incredible opportunity to witness my son’s progress in reading, and I have to give a special shout-out to Ms. Jen, his amazing teacher.

My son has always loved Pokémon, but I never expected that his interest could bridge the gap to mastering phonetics. One day, he he was showing her his Pokémon card collection. Ms. Jen seized the moment and found a teachable moment in his reading scope and sequence and taught him the sounds of ‘ea’ as both a long vowel ‘e’ (like in "team") and a short vowel ‘e’ (like in "bread"). It was a game-changer!

She introduced the concept not just through "lesssons" but through engaging and meaningful text. Using Pokémon names and card descriptions, she created a fun learning experience that had my son excited to read. He eagerly pointed out names and words with the ‘ea’ sound, beaming with pride when he recognized them. Watching him connect these sounds with something he genuinely loves made all the difference.

Now, reading isn’t a chore for him; it’s an adventure! I can’t thank Ms. Jen enough for her creativity and dedication. By utilizing something familiar and enjoyable, she turned a challenging aspect of reading into a joyous learning experience. My son now approaches new words with confidence, and our reading time is filled with laughter and excitement.

Thank you, Ms. Jen, for inspiring my son and giving him the tools he needs to succeed! You have truly made a lasting impact on his education and his love for reading.

Student: That's my nephew's name (he's older than me). I always spelled his name, Shan. Then I saw he signed his name on a card and wrote an "e" at the end of it, and I knew it was a magic "e."

I asked my mom for reading tutoring. It's a true story, I promise! The most important thing I learned in the first week is not to guess or skip words. Instead, I WILL look for word parts and patterns to read an unknown or unfamiliar word while reading.

I always knew my daughter could understand how to read, but it was just that her understanding was jumbled. Now, she's noticing words everywhere and thinking about their spelling patterns, whether they follow a rule or not.

Ms Jenn works with my son, who is on the spectrum, and my middle schooler. She has made learning fun for them and adjusts her session to whatever they need to be successful. I would 100% recommend her to anyone, any age, any time. She's amazing!
